About this event

OVERVIEW:

It’s official: You’re officially an SFU Beedie Student and you’ve begun one of the greatest adventures life has to offer. To smooth your transition to university and help you make the most of the incredible experience that lies ahead, we created LAUNCH.

LAUNCH is a three-day, weekend orientation for new incoming High School students admitted to SFU Beedie School of Business for Fall 2021. Loaded with activities and information needed to help navigate your transition into university life, LAUNCH is your opportunity to:

  • Build meaningful connections and lifelong friendships
  • Learn about campus services, including academic and social supports, student engagement, and career management services
  • Network with business faculty and gain strategies for academic success
  • Discover enrichment opportunities like clubs, study abroad programs, co-op, and case competitions
  • Explore leadership programming for a leg-up in your future career
  • Be inspired by and get advice from senior Beedie students on how to stay engaged, motivated, and healthy.
  • Make memories that last a lifetime

LAUNCH is your chance to get a head-start on your journey with the SFU Beedie School of Business . During LAUNCH, you will be sorted into small groups with other like-minded, first-year Beedie students and guided by two senior student leaders (LAUNCH Leaders) who will support you throughout the weekend and beyond.

Please note: High School LAUNCH is intended only for students joining SFU Beedie directly from high school.

If you are a transfer student joining us this Fall, please DO NOT REGISTER for this event. Your Orientation experience will be part of your BUS 202 course and you will be provided with details soon. For more information visit https://beedie.sfu.ca/student-life/undergraduates/beedie-launch.

  • Early Bird Registration (Jul. 27 - Aug. 17): SOLD OUT
  • Regular Admission (Aug. 18 - Sept. 7): $50 CAD

All LAUNCH registrants are entitled to receive an SFU Beedie SWAG package, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee that registrants signing up after August 31 will receive their package prior to the event weekend due to shipping and postal delays.

By participating in the LAUNCH, you will receive semester-long support from your LAUNCH Leader while also gaining access to exclusive programming and community-building opportunities through the Extended LAUNCH program. More details about Extended LAUNCH coming soon.

Note: if cost is a significant barrier/concern for you, please email bsb_launch@sfu.ca to chat about a sliding scale or accommodations regarding the cost of this program.

Refund Policy:

We will approve refund requests up until Monday, August 23, 11:59 PM (PST). Unfortunately, we will not be able to return the monetary value of your ticket following that date, as the 'LAUNCH SWAG Boxes' will have already been shipped to your mailing address.

  • Access to reliable internet
  • Access to Zoom and Canvas (Free with your SFU credentials)

  • Access to a quiet space

We understand the items stated above are not always available and there might be additional steps we need to take to ensure your experience is the best and support you. Please reach out to bsb_launch@sfu.ca or use the comment box in the registration form to let us know if you need technological accommodations.

If you require American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, captioning, or any other accommodation to fully participate in this experience please let us know by Wednesday August 25 by emailing bsb_launch@sfu.ca or by using the accommodations section in the registration form.

PRIVACY:

To ensure that we are using online meeting technology in a privacy-conscious way, we are following best practices for this online event series:

  • We will only circulate the meeting links to those who are registered for the event
  • We will password protect the sessions
  • We will enable end-to-end encryption
  • We will ask that participants use their first and last name as their display name, so we can check incoming participants against the event registration list.
  • We will be transparent as to where the platforms and information we are collecting from you are hosted.

To protect your own privacy, we suggest that:

  • You use your SFU email address to log into the sessions and platforms. This is so that the various platforms can’t cross-reference your profile with the rest of your digital profiles under your personal email address.
  • We remind you that whatever you say is public and recorded, so please do not share sensitive information about yourself or others, and do not say anything you do not wish to enter the public domain.
  • Only certain sessions or part of the orientation will be recorded. Participants will be aware of when the recordings are happening.

  • You do not share the meeting links with other people. All registrants will receive the links prior to the event and should be able to access them individually.
  • You do not record or photograph yourself, other participants, or the hosts during the orientation, unless permission is requested and given.
